Engineering Solutions: Hair Science

This resource will enable students to learn how Dyson engineers apply science and engineering to understand all things hair. This includes different hair types, knowing what makes hair healthy, what causes it to become damaged, as well as understanding that hair can reflect our identity, personality and beliefs.

This resource has been designed to complement the Science, Design and Technology and Mathematics curriculums at Key Stages 3 and 4.

What's included in this resource?

This resource contains lesson plans, supporting presentation decks and videos. The teacher's pack contains summary information, explaining how the lessons relate to Dyson's technology and their hair science research.

Guided Lesson Plans

This pack contains all the information needed for students to complete a series of three lessons and experiments, including understanding the structure, composition and bonds of hair.

Lesson 01: Healthy Hair

This presentation deck supports Lesson 01: Introduction to engineering and Hair Science.

Lesson 02: Structure, composition and bonds

This presentation deck supports Lesson 02: What is hair made from?

Videos

Dyson's Hair Science engineers

These videos are referenced in the Teacher's Pack and provide additional information about what Hair Science is, why it's important and the breadth of engineers involved with Dyson's own Hair Science research.
